| First, I removed the scale deposited from the coolant.
A wire wheel on a variable-speed reversible drill is very helpful.

| Here you can see before and after I removed the
sediment that deposits in the threads of the stud bolts for the pump.
You want to get rid of this sediment. It will cause your bolts
and nuts to seize. I had to drill out a seized screw from the
thermostat housing. It's a royal pain in the ass. Avoid
having to do it if you can. |

différence avant et après nettoyage du calcaire. Il est important
d’en enlever, car le calcaire peut verrouiller les ecrous aux goujons. |

| Next, prepare your gasket for fitting. The gasket for
my pump arrived torn. |
Suite, préparer le
joint. Le joint emballé avec la pompe s’est arrivé déchiré. |

| If you have part of the gasket, trace out what you
can. Trace the inside and outside edges of the gasket, and the holes
for the studs. |

| First make a ROUGH CUT of the gasket. Cut well away
from the edges of the gasket. You will do the detailed trim when
the gasket is in place. |

| Set the gasket on the studs. Push the gasket
evenly onto the studs. If you push one side all the way down
whilst the other side is at the end of the stud, you will tear the
material. |

goujons. Attention à la mise en place, car le joint peut déchirer
facilement. |

| With the gasket pushed against the water
pump base, do the fine trim in the INSIDE edges of the gasket.
Do not trim the outside edges of the gasket now. You will put
too much stress on the material and tear it. You can trim the
outside edges of the gasket after you have set the pump in place. |
Quand le joint est mis en
place, coupez-le soigneusement. Il ne faut que couper les parties
intérieures. On fera l’extérieur plus tard. |

| I applied a 'gasket and flange dressing product to the
gasket material. I want to prevent leaks as much as possible. It
goes on all surfaces. |

pour les joints. D’abord, au couvercle. |

| Then on both sides of the gasket. I
put extra dressing sealant at the base of the lower studs. This is
where the corrosion was worst, evidencing the greatest leaks.
Not much for leaks for 25 years, but not exactly watertight. |

| I put on a fresh pair of gloves. The
other ones have gasket sealant all over them , and I do not want any
extra sealant on the outside of the pump. |

| Clean any excess gasket sealant from the
studs. You don't want it to cause the bolts to seize onto the studs.
Then put the nuts (M8x1.25) on the studs and tighten them down. |

ne veut pas que la colle y reste pour s’enmerder les écrous. Les
écrous sont M8x1.25. |

| Get out your cheap disposable knife.
You don't want to mess up a good knife with the gasket sealant.
Now that the pump is tightened onto the base, you can cut away the
excess gasket material. |
Utilisez un couteau
jetable, car on ne veut pas qu’un bon couteau soit foutu par la colle.
Avec les écrous bien serrés, le joint ne bougera pas quand on le
coupe. |

| After a bit of a trim, scrape away the excess
gasket and sealant and tidy with a towel. |
Après le coiffure, un peu
de nettoyage, et c’est fait. |
