Many of these were taken from the inside of a moving
bus, so the image quality might not be exceptional. |
I will forever associate Town Cars with Russians. |
This is what we saw upon debarking in Moscow.
Someone went to the trouble to paint and repair the facade, but the
building still is abandoned. |
The FSB f/k/a KGB. |
Their space programme reaches the stars, but their
brooms don't reach the ground. |
Some nice streetscape ornamentation |
More streetscape ornamentation. Photographing a
moving vehicle from a moving vehicle rarely yields satisfactory
results. |
And again. |
A casino at Gostiny Dvor. |
Fountain. |
Some parts of Russia have been overtaken by
advertising, junking up what would otherwise be some beautiful
buildings. |
I think this is the Kirov. |
A nice mosaic on an otherwise unremarkable wall. |
The use of color in architecture is fantastic.
A number of buildings had beautiful shades of green, oranges, yellows,
for the entire facade. |
More variety of colors, this time in buildings along
the river. I cropped the image some, but I wanted to keep the
riverside walkway to provide context. There was a taxi and a
crane interfering with the shot, so I made them disappear. maybe
digital has its advantages after all. |
They have goombah weddings too! |
For some reason, this interested me. Perhaps it
will come to me later. |
Wooden carving of a ship. I think this was
supposed to be Peter the Great. |
This time it's not the fogged film, it's the
pollution. The air was completely putrid. |
Ski Jump |
Architecture in Russia was referred to by the era of
the General Secretary in charge at the time. I think these are
Kruschev era. |
So, how many styles are present on this building? |
Grrrrr. |
Hammer and sickle dominates a world of wheat. |
