City Centre and Auckland University
A building, like a rose, can be beautiful or unfriendly, depending on the angle.  The progressive alternation of light and dark caught my eye on this one.

As I live in a pretty sterile and manufactured environment, I particularly appreciate the juxtaposition of palm trees with office buildings.  A reminder that there is a world outside of the workplace, a heretical position to take in New York. This intersection was across from the Backpackers' where I stayed.  It had a nice roof deck, complete with that constant of NZ accommodations, a BBQ.  I was able to get some nice night shots; I propped my camera with a coffee can on the balcony.

In 1942, out of concerns about Japanese air attacks, Auckland City built a 3,500 metre tunnel system under Albert Park as an air raid shelter.  Auckland was never bombed, and the tunnels were never used.  The system was sealed in 1946. One of these entrances was the wall behind the row of park benches.

The Intrepid Binary Brothers explored the tunnels and documented the adventure here.

The Auckland City Council has signed an Agreement with Subterranean City Partnership for the possible development of the tunnel system.   I think the tunnel system has the potential to be a really unique and interesting tourist attraction, a nice additional use of an existing infrastructure element, similar to what had been done with the Sydney Harbour Bridgeclimb.

it is a very nice city park, impeccably groomed in the classic British fashion. Auckland City site on Albert Park
